A Camping or Caravanning Holiday to Great Britain - 10 Beautiful Places to Visit in the UK

A trip through Great Britain, beginning in London and finishing in Edinburgh and covering a range of scenic and traditional British places, ideally suited to someone in a campervan, motorhome or caravan and easily accomplished in under two weeks.

Leave London travelling westward. You could choose to visit world famous Oxford and then continue driving south west through the Cotswolds towards until you reach Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

1. Stonehenge is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world. It is composed of a large circle of stones that were erected in around 2200 BC near Salisbury. From Stonehenge continue 160 miles further west into Cornwall. In Cornwall you will discover The Eden Project.

2. The Eden Project is a large-scale environmental complex built into a formerly mined clay pit. It is huge, spectacular modern green house containing plant species from around the world and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK. After visiting the Eden Project you could go to any one of the scenic villages or towns on the north Cornish coast. I recommend visiting Padstow.

3. Padstow is a popular tourist village on the North Cornwall coast, famed for being incredibly picturesque and renowned for its wonderful restaurants. From Padstow, travel 170 miles north east miles to Bath.

4. Bath is a city originally built by the Romans on top of naturally occurring hot springs. Spend time relaxing in one of the natural baths and marvel at the great buildings in this picturesque ancient British city. Travel 130 miles north of Bath and you will encounter Ironbridge.

5. Ironbridge is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the county of Shropshire. It is famed for having the world's first bridge constructed from wrought iron. It is a charming, quiet and beautiful place set on the river Severn. Leave Ironbridge and head 60 miles north to Chester. On route to Chester you should visit The Pontcycilte Aqueduct on the border between England and Wales.

6 The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a navigable aqueduct that carries the Llangollen Canal over the valley of the River Dee. Designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1805, this is the highest and longest aqueduct in the UK and it is still in use today. Walk, or take a canal boat, over this magnificent industrial achievement. Then continue north to Chester.

7 Chester is one of the best-preserved walled cities in the United Kingdom. It is a beautiful traditional city that was of immense importance during roman times. Visit any one of the castles in the area around Chester. From there, travel onto the Lake District in the north of England.

8 The Lake District is one of England's eight national parks and is the most mountainous part of the country. Enjoy walking or cycling in the hills or sailing on the various lakes and marvel at the very best countryside England has to offer before heading across the border into Scotland and onto Hadrian's Wall.

9 Hadrian's Wall is a stone and turf fortification built by the Romans across the entire width of Great Britain. It is a fascinating, well preserved landmark that originally marked the frontier of the Roman Empire. 100 miles north east of Hadrian's Wall you will find Edinburgh.

10 Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and much of it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Edinburgh will be quite unlike any other city you will have visited in the UK. It is simply spectacular. Take time to visit the grandeur castle and to walk the immense cobbled boulevards. If you are still craving more scenery after your trip up from London then do venture further north to the Highlands of Scotland, where you will encounter mountains, lochs and tranquillity unlike anywhere else in the world. They are simply spectacular.
