The War of Words - Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans

Usually the war of words begins as soon as Tito Ortiz opens his mouth. This time, it seems as if his opponent is doing more talking than himself. While Tito has said that he is not looking past Rashad Evans, Evans seems to be singing a different tune.

When Rashad was questioned about fighting Ortiz he replied with a comment that sounds as if he thinks Tito is washed up. “I would be more excited to fight the old Tito Ortiz because he was a lot better. The Tito of now is not as good. He’s not fighting as good as Tito Ortiz used to be long ago.” These are Rashad Evans’ words, paraphrased by Tito Ortiz, words that Tito believes are sparked by intimidation.

Rashad has talked down his Ortiz’s victories over Ken Shamrock and Forrest Griffin while emphasizing his two losses to Chuck Liddell. He goes as far as to say that Ortiz is scared of Chuck and does not like to get hit. With this in mind, Rashad is not afraid to talk about his game plan. He plans to exchange with Tito and look for a knockout, but knocking out Tito Ortiz is not easy. Ortiz has only been KO’d by one man in his professional mixed martial arts career. That man is Chuck Liddell.

Tito’s game plan will be no secret either. He will go in there and attempt his patented ground and pound against Evans. “When the factor comes about and he's on his back getting his face elbowed in, he's going to realize that there's nobody that has ground and pound like me” said Ortiz of his plan of attack against Evans.

Ortiz says that he is not looking past Evans, however, comments seem as if Evans may be looking past Ortiz. So who will show up on July 7th, a washed up Ortiz or the Huntington Beach Bad Boy? A fast rising superstar in Rashad Evans or an over confident newcomer?
